The words equity and equality are sometimes used interchangeably, but they mean different things. Equity is giving everyone what they need to be successful. Equality is treating everyone the same. While equality aims to promote fairness, it can only work if everyone starts from the same place and needs the same help.
The #TraumaInformedCare Tip of the Month:
We need to recognize our differences as unique, rather than reach for one definition of “success.” By upholding just one definition of success, we actively erase our differences. Our differences are not the obstacles. This means the level of help we provide in our buildings or under our umbrella of services needs to be tailored to individual’s unique circumstances, personality, history, culture, ethnicity, race, diagnosis, orientation, etc. This is a vital part of trauma informed care, as it validates not only for our clients, but also for staff, that everyone deserves individualized care as it is their human right and honors all differences. #ChildAndFamilyTreatmentCenter
